Entity Solutions Limited traces its origin to the Research and Development wing of Secure Meters Limited – India's largest exporter of electronic meters.

The R&D facility – the largest for any metering company - is recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India. Over the years, the R&D center has added many feathers to its cap, including The award for the best R&D for the electrical sector by the Government of India. It was carved out as an independent development center in November 2004 to leverage Secure Meter's strength in research and development.

ESL serves as the R&D hub of the Entity group – a global consortium of companies in allied businesses. Each consortium member has a core competency and they together share a common vision. ESL carries out innovative developments in the forefront of technology to provide cutting edge benefits to the Entity group's businesses.

Entity Solutions Limited is also engaged in providing development services to the utility industry at large. Each of the three development centers located at Udaipur, Gurgaon (in India ) and Winchester (in UK ) serve as a center of excellence. While the Gurgaon Center is engaged in application software development for the utility services business, Udaipur specializes in electronics & communications, real time embedded & application software, industrial & mechanical design, product validation and reliability engineering. The Winchester center specializes in core technology and software.
